20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 1954
In 1868, many ships mysteriously sank in the ocean, rumored to be the work of a giant sea creature. A warship sent to investigate suffered the same fate, but its survivors were rescued by the advanced submarine Nautilus, captained by the enigmatic Nemo. Professor Pierre Arronax, his assistant Conseil, and sailor Ned Land are taken aboard and learn of Nemo’s mission. “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” Disney’s most expensive film at the time, was shot from January to June 1954 in Jamaica, the Bahamas, and California. The film won an Oscar for Best Art Direction, Set Decoration, and Special Effects in 1955, and was nominated for Best Editing.
