In 1998, a group of young men from Siberia joined the fight against the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. Sent to train with the national team in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, they form strong bonds amidst the insults and violence from their unstable sergeant Dygalo. Upon being deployed to Bagram Air Base, they find themselves in the midst of chaos as their plane is shot down upon arrival in Afghanistan. Joining the 9th Company, they are sent to the Khost Region at an altitude of 3234 meters. Their mission is to protect the mountain and guard convoys. When the Russian army later withdraws from Afghanistan, the 9th Company is left to fend for themselves in the mountains.
