A Bridge Too Far 1977
After the Normandy landings in World War II, the Allies move to invade Holland and capture the Ruhr, the industrial region of Germany, in order to cut off the Germans from the war. The strategic importance of the invasion plan lies in capturing the Nijmegen and Arnheim bridges over the Rhine River. However, a major mistake is made as the paratroopers land much further away from the Arnheim bridge than intended. Contrary to belief, the German forces in the area are strong enough and misinformation leads to a series of errors, resulting in tragic consequences known as “Operation Market Garden.”
