David (Ryan Gosling) is the heir to the wealthy Markov family in America. He has a tense relationship with his father Sanford (Frank Langella) after his mother’s suicide. David’s relationship with the innocent and beautiful Kathy (Kirsten Dunst), whom he is married to, becomes obsessive over time.
