Almanya – Willkommen in Deutschland 2011
After World War II, Germany, which hired workers from many countries to recover and fill the labor shortage, became the destination for the first wave of Turkish immigrants in the last 50 years. On September 10, 1964, the one millionth guest worker set foot on German soil. The protagonist of the film “Welcome to Germany,” Hüseyin Yılmaz, is a migrant seeking to be the one millionth worker in this foreign country. After a while, Hüseyin immigrated to Germany and took his family to Turkey. Years later, Hüseyin’s decision to buy a house in Turkey to return home will lead to discussions, reconciliations, and unexpected events within the family… Directed and written by Yasemin and Nesrin Shamdereli, the film portrays Turkish immigrants who have been living in Germany for almost 50 years. Depression, assimilation, integration, and adaptation are brought to the big screen with humor… The film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, and will be released in theaters after Filmekimi 2011.
