Anna and the King 1999
In the 1860s, English teacher Anna Leonowens (Jodie Foster) becomes a widow and travels to the country of Siam (Thailand) with her child. There, she is tasked with educating the 58 children of King Mongkut (Chow Yun-Fat). Cultural differences lead to conflicts between the two, further complicated by the ongoing war between England and Burma. Despite the King’s almost godlike status in Buddhist tradition, Anna manages to form a friendship with him.
