Anna Karenina 2012
In 1874, young and beautiful Anna Karenina holds a high position in St. Petersburg’s high society. Her husband Karenin is also an important figure in Russian politics. When she receives a letter from her brother Oblonsky asking her to reconcile with his wife Dolly and come to Moscow, Anna meets the young officer Vronsky at the station, sparking a forbidden attraction. Their affair becomes the talk of the town during a grand ball in Moscow. Despite her efforts to resist, Anna succumbs to the love she feels for Vronsky and flees to St. Petersburg. Despite warnings from her husband Karenin, Anna cannot deny the scandalous love in her heart. The hypocrisy of Russian society towards a woman who chooses love over convention is brought to light in this tale of passion and tragedy. Directed by Joe Wright and adapted from Tolstoy’s classic novel by Oscar-winning Tom Stoppard, the film features Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Johnson in leading roles.
