Antiviral 2012
Brandon Cronenberg seems to be following in his father David Cronenberg’s footsteps. They both seem to work in a similar way, but Brandon’s style is a bit more flashy. We are living in an age where there are people who want to feel closer to the stars by infecting themselves with famous viruses. There are even reputable clinics that offer this service. Sid works at one of these clinics, carrying famous viruses in his body to make easy money by selling them to smugglers. One day, he becomes infected with a virus that kills a star, and everything starts to go wrong. What starts off as a sci-fi film quickly turns into a grotesque horror story. The film shows us one of the extreme aspects of the star culture we have created. In his directorial debut, Cronenberg successfully manages an ambitious project like Antiviral, both in terms of form and content.
