Battle in Seattle 2007
The Seattle uprising heralds the arrival of globalization! A conference organized by the World Trade Organization in November 1999 saw thousands of protesters taking to the streets of Seattle, some rallying against famine in Africa, some seeking to end farmer suicides in India, all united against policies driven by economic interests. While the opposition did not result in major changes to WTO or IMF policies, the events during the protests led to the resignations of the Seattle mayor and police chief. This resistance became one of the largest anti-globalization movements in American history.
