Beasts of the Southern Wild 2012
Cimcime (Hushpuppy) is a cute six-year-old girl who lives with her father in the poor but happy Bathtup (The Basin) community on the shores of New Orleans. When her father Wink falls ill with a mysterious and undiagnosable disease, it disrupts the way the world works and leads to a kind of apocalypse. An ancient army called Bison emerges from graves, ready to fight and bring about the end of the world. Now, Cimcime must leave her community behind and search for her mother on the other side of the world. She must save both her father and their flooded home, along with the benefactor. Based on the play “Juicy and Tasty,” the film became one of the most popular movies at major festivals in 2012. It won awards in important categories at Cannes and Sundance festivals, particularly remembered for the outstanding performance of child actor Quvenzhane Wallis.
