11-year-old Chala lives with his drug-addicted mother Sonia. Despite his young age, he does whatever it takes to support the household. The challenges he faces start to affect his schoolwork. For the extremely caring teacher Carmela, there is nothing more important in life than her students. When Carmela falls ill and can’t come to school for a few months, she returns to find that things have changed in her absence. As she tries to restore order, her relationship with Chala intensifies.
