Before Elvis, Elton John, Madonna, and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace: a talented pianist, an incredible artist, and a dazzling stage and television star. Known for his extravagance, lights, and exaggeration, Liberace was a world-renowned artist who won over the public and built a loyal fan base throughout his 40-year career. Living an excessive life both on and off stage, Liberace met a handsome young stranger, Scott Thorson, in the summer of 1977, and despite their age difference and different worlds, they began a five-year relationship. From their meetings behind the candelabra to their bitter parting at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, this film tells the story of their relationship behind the scenes. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the film, which will air on HBO on May 26, stars Michael Douglas as the famous musician Liberace and Matt Damon as his boyfriend, Scott Thorson.
