Being There 1979
Chance has lived his entire life as a gardener in the home of an old man, never venturing outside or experiencing the world beyond the garden and the television. When the old man dies, Chance is left adrift as the house is set to be sold. With no proof of his existence beyond his years in the house, Chance struggles to convince lawyers of his past life with the old man. Without even a birth certificate, Chance finds himself out on the streets for the first time, navigating a world he knows nothing about. His naive and comedic journey unfolds as he encounters experiences and people he has never encountered before, all while trying to make sense of a life he has never truly lived. Peter Sellers delivers a magnificent performance in this Hal Ashby film that is a must-see for those who appreciate a unique and thought-provoking story.
