Beloved Friend is a film set in the 19th century, adapted from Guy de Maupassant’s novel of the same name. The story follows Georges Duroy, a young journalist in Paris who climbs the ladder of fame with ruthless ambition. Duroy’s relationship with a powerful and beautiful woman in Paris is central to the film, as he strives to become the most powerful man in the world. Thurman plays a friend’s wife who helps Duroy improve his accent, leading to a connection that will change both of their lives. Kristin Scott Thomas portrays an upper-class woman who falls in love with journalist Duroy, while Christina Ricci plays a cunning young housewife.
