Bernie Theede works as an assistant funeral director in a small Texas town. He is well-liked by everyone in the community and is involved in various activities such as teaching at school and singing in the church choir. Despite his good nature, Bernie finds himself overwhelmed by the demands of wealthy widow Marjorie Nugent, who he helps with her banking. Eventually, Bernie snaps and murders Marjorie. Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey star in this dark comedy about a bizarre true crime story.
