Schachnovelle 2021
In 1938, Nazi Germany has invaded Austria and wealthy notary Josef Bartok is arrested for hiding important information. Confined to a hotel room, Josef loses his sanity but stumbles upon a chess book. He memorizes the book and becomes a master at chess. Upon his release, Josef, who has never played before, faces the world chess champion on his way to New York.
