Adapted from Satrapi’s own graphic novel, this live-action film tells the story of Azrael, who comes to take the life of world-renowned virtuoso violinist Nasser, who chooses death when his instrument breaks. In the eight days leading up to Azrael’s arrival, Nasser relives his life, from his difficult school days to his brother, his loveless marriage, his smoking mother, and his childhood love in Iran. Marjane Satrapi’s new feature film, set in 1950s Iran, is a funny, poignant, and melancholic continuation of the successful Persepolis.
