Dan is a young journalist who makes a living by writing obituaries, but his goal is to become a writer. His muse is Alice, an American woman he meets by chance. When Alice’s book about her life is about to be published, Dan falls in love with the photographer Anna, whom he visits for the cover. Recently divorced Anna rejects Dan’s advances and marries doctor Larry, whom Dan introduced her to. However, the attraction between Anna and Dan leads to both of them cheating on their loved ones. The revelation of these affairs turns the lives of the four upside down. With a screenplay that portrays the realities of relationships in a candid manner, and the skilled direction of Mike Nichols combined with a talented cast, the film is a delightful watch.
