In 10th century China, during the final years of the Tang Dynasty, the palace prepares for the Chun Yang festival with great pomp and grandeur. The palace is adorned with golden flowers as preparations continue. Unexpectedly, the Emperor returns to the palace with his middle son, Prince Jai, during the festivities. His return is worrisome as his relationship with the Empress has been strained for some time. The Empress is involved with her stepson, Prince Wan, and fears that the Emperor may discover their love and trap them. The Emperor has a plan but must leave the palace to avoid the palace intrigues. However, he is attacked by mysterious individuals and brought back to the palace. This return sets off a series of surprises and twists in the palace.
