Storyline

Do the Right Thing 1989

On the hottest day of the year in Brooklyn, New York, tensions rise in the neighborhood as a DJ entertains on the radio and a Korean couple runs a corner store. The only bustling spot is Sal’s famous pizzeria, managed by a white man. Mookie, a tired black man, works at Sal’s, alongside his responsible sister Tina and friends Radio Raheem and Buggin’ Out. When Buggin’ Out questions why only white celebrities are on the pizzeria’s wall of fame, it sets off a chain of events that escalates on this already tense day. Spike Lee’s iconic film “Do the Right Thing” bravely tackles the complex issue of racism, paving the way for him to make more impactful films in the future.
