Dragonfly 2002
Chicago Memorial Hospital Emergency Department Chief Dr. Joe Darrow (Kevin Costner) is a renowned expert in trauma and injury. His wife Emily (Jo Morton), who is also a doctor, dies in a car accident in the mountains while on a relief mission in Venezuela. Joe, who was against her going on this mission from the beginning, falls into a severe depression as her body has not been found six months after the incident. Despite the passage of time, Joe’s behavior worsens at the hospital due to his depression. His manager advises him to take a break and clear his mind. Joe isolates himself from the rest of the world with memories of Emily, including a dragonfly brooch that symbolizes her. One night, when he is alone at home, one of the dragonfly-shaped brooches falls off the table as if pushed by someone. Joe starts to see more and more hallucinations. Some of the dying young patients Joe meets claim that his wife is trying to communicate with him. A nun investigating such events tells Joe that he and Emily may have some unfinished business and that he will not be able to get rid of his hallucinations until he completes them.
