Elena 2011
Elena, a professional nurse, marries Vladimir, a wealthy elderly man in need of home care. Both have children from previous marriages and are somewhat distant and troubled individuals. When Vladimir suffers a heart attack and is hospitalized, he decides to write his will; however, Elena is not included in it. Elena, trying to hold her son’s family together on the brink of collapse, faces a moral dilemma of sacrifice between her husband and his family. The latest film from Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev, known for The Return and The Banishment, gained a significant audience with its screening at the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section, where it was also awarded the Jury Prize. The film has received high critical acclaim in Turkey as well.
