Gemma Bovery 2014
Martin is a fan of old Paris, particularly of Gustave Flaubert. He learns that an English couple has moved to a nearby farm in the town of Normandy, and they have taken the names of Flaubert’s characters, Gemma and Charles Boveri. The couple’s lifestyle and behavior capture Martin’s attention. Gemma, played by Gemma Arterton, becomes the center of attention in the town, leading to a romantic entanglement. Directed by Anne Fontaine, this steamy romantic film, adapted from Posy Simmonds’ comic book of the same name, flirts with real life and classic literature.
