Jordan Benedict Jr. (Rock Hudson), the owner of the largest cattle ranch and estates in Texas, falls in love with the stubborn, intellectual daughter Leslie (Elizabeth Taylor) of a horse ranch owner while visiting to buy a valuable horse. They get married and arrive at Benedict’s magnificent mansion in the middle of endless prairies. The mansion is managed by Sister Luz Benedict and she is not willing to welcome a new bride. Moreover, she has taken the rebellious Jett Rink (James Dean), who refuses to get along with his brother Jordan, under her protection.
