The film Hansel and Gretel, shot in America and Germany, had a budget of around 50 million dollars. However, when it was released on February 1, 2013 under the title Witch Hunters, it managed to gross a whopping 225 million dollars. The story is a darker and more fantastical adaptation of the popular children’s tale of Hansel and Gretel. It follows the two siblings as they get lost in the forest and end up trapped in a house made of sweets and chocolates, only to be lured into a trap by an evil witch. However, this version of the story is a bit different from the one we tell our children. Hansel and Gretel manage to escape being the witch’s meal and, together, find a way to defeat her. After their first witch hunt, they make a pact to spend their lives hunting witches. As they become more skilled at killing ugly and evil-hearted witches in every village and forest they visit, they soon realize that the last village they hear about is different from their usual hunts. They must put an end to the endless child abductions, but when they encounter a very powerful witch they have never faced before, Hansel and Gretel find themselves in the midst of a great chaos. The siblings must put a stop to this evil trend.
