Jim Davis (Christian Bale) returned from the Gulf War and has been struggling to get his life back on track. Wanting to find different ways to serve his country and not wanting to be stuck in a boring desk job, Jim hangs out with his unemployed childhood friend Mike (Freddy Rodriguez) and waits for his dreams to come true. Meanwhile, Silvia Maica (Eva Longoria) pressures him to find a stable and permanent job. When Mike is forced to look for a job, Jim offers to help him find one. However, the two close friends, who open up to the streets of South Los Angeles, will be faced with complete chaos in a city filled with all kinds of oppression and trouble, just like in their childhood years.
