Harvey 1950
Elwood P. Dowd lives with his sister Veta and niece Myrtle, who moved into his house after their mother’s death. Veta is looking for a suitable husband for her daughter, but Myrtle, who is not very attractive, can’t go out with anyone because people don’t like Elwood’s oddities. This is because Elwood lives with a six-foot-tall white rabbit named Harvey, whom he claims is an invisible friend that only he can see. Whenever Veta invites someone over, Elwood tries to introduce them to Harvey, and the intrigued guests end up letting themselves in. Elwood’s daily routine consists of going to the same bar with Harvey, chatting with regulars who are used to him and Harvey, and drinking margaritas. However, Elwood doesn’t realize that people think he’s crazy. Veta, feeling sorry for her brother, decides to have him committed to a psychiatric hospital at the insistence of her daughter, who can’t find a husband. Unwillingly, Elwood is taken to the hospital, where doctors mistakenly admit Veta instead of him. Barely escaping from there, Veta and the pursuing doctors race to track down Elwood. No one who creates a situation that upsets Elwood will escape the consequences of Harvey, whom no one believes or sees.
