The film is about the Morgan family living in the Galler region at the turn of the century, who make a living by working in the coal mines. The story is told through the eyes of the youngest member of the family, Huw, who has serious walking difficulties and struggles at school. The family members work in the coal mines to earn money, but as time passes, the wages of the miners start to decrease. Many workers are laid off, causing great hardship for the families. Reverend Morgan opposes his children who support the Union and tries to calm the community. As the anger of the miners grows, Mrs. Morgan is left to take care of her children and husband. She will do her best to protect her family and home…
