Barbarism, human dignity, and war… In 1942, on the western border of the USSR, below the Nazi occupation zone, local armed individuals derail a train, leading to the arrest and subsequent release of railway worker Sushenya. Suspected of betrayal, Sushenya is taken to the forest by two rebels where he is ambushed and finds himself face to face with his wounded enemy. In the depths of the ancient forest where there are no friends or foes, Sushenya must make a moral decision, but the circumstances are far from moral.
