Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage), a beloved and kind police officer in his hometown of Muriel, is married to a grumpy wife who hates being poor. At her insistence, he buys a lottery ticket at a cafe where Yvonne Biasi, who has had her life ruined by credit card debt, works. Not having enough money to tip, Charlie promises to give her half of the winnings if he wins the lottery. And he does. Now, everyone’s lives are about to change.
