Known as the “Chinese Schindler,” Rabe creates safe zones for the people of Nanjing, ultimately saving the lives of 250,000 Chinese during the massacre. Despite being called back to Berlin by his superiors, Rabe chooses to stay and continue his humanitarian efforts, providing shelter, food, and protection to those in need.
