Julius Caesar 1953
This is a screen adaptation with a large cast of Shakespeare’s tragedy; the plot revolves around a conspiracy organized against Julius Caesar, the last great commander of the Roman Republic recognized by the Roman Senate, resulting in his assassination. Director Mankiewicz created a masterpiece by filming line by line with Marlon Brando as Antony, James Mason as Brutus, John Gielgud as Cassius, and Louis Calhern as Caesar. The film won the Oscar for Best Art Direction and Set Decoration in 1953.
