Kings 2017
“Kings” is a film based on a true story that was released on April 11, 2017. The story takes us back to 1992, where African American US citizen Rodney King is subjected to police brutality. The film explores the events that unfolded in Los Angeles following the release of the police officers involved in King’s beating. Millie (Halle Berry) is a hardworking single mother with a soft spot for street kids. Living with eight children, she takes in another one. Her neighbor Obie (Daniel Craig), described as a loose cannon, is the only white person in a neighborhood predominantly inhabited by African Americans, Latinos, and Koreans. As racial tensions escalate, Millie and Obie form an unexpected alliance. Amidst the chaos that ensues after the release of the four police officers who assaulted Rodney King, the duo navigates the turmoil of the city in an effort to safely return Millie’s children home.
