Storyline

Kundun 1997

Director Martin Scorsese, known for his knowledge of America’s dark corners and wild life, travels from west to east to Tibet, this time, trying to tell a foreign culture through the help of Kundun, a film he made without the participation of Western actors. This is a film about a “being” called Kundun in the Tibetan language, believed by Buddhists to be a spiritual leader who is a reflection of Buddha on earth and who is believed to constantly change bodies through reincarnation. After the death of the 13th Dalai Lama, everything begins with the discovery of a small child believed by monks to be the carrier of the spirit of this holy leader. We go back to the 1937 in China, where the 14th Dalai Lama or Kundun is accepted as a “sacred spirit” at the age of two and grows up to be trained by monks in a Buddhist monastery and goes into exile from his occupied country in the 1957s.
