Baltimore Fire Department’s 49th squad member Jack Morrison (Joaquin Phoenix) is passionate about his job. However, meeting the love of his life and getting married, as well as his wife getting pregnant, starts to strain his dedication to his work. While trying to rescue a man trapped in a fire at a factory warehouse, Jack finds himself in the same situation. Surrounded by flames, smoke, and scattered debris, he struggles to survive amidst the ruins. Meanwhile, Fire Chief Mike Kennedy’s sole purpose is to rescue his close friend. Jack, preparing for what seems like a last resort from the outside, experiences his first encounter with the woman who will become his greatest love, the unsettling changes that distance him from home, and the complex emotions he faces. When his wife becomes pregnant, he embarks on a life-saving mission that is the ultimate reward in his profession.
