Larry Crowne, a charming and genuine man, finds himself unemployed and struggling to make ends meet after being let go from his job at a company that is downsizing. Unsure of what to do with his newfound free time, Larry takes the advice of his friends and colleagues Lamar and B’Ella, and decides to enroll in a local community college to start a new chapter in his life. As he immerses himself in campus life, he meets a group of young and ambitious students, including the beautiful Thalia and her boyfriend Dell. Surprisingly, Larry finds himself falling for his rhetoric teacher Mercedes, who has lost interest in both teaching and her husband Dean. Mercedes is inspired by Larry’s transformation and can’t deny her growing attraction to this middle-aged student who has undergone a major change. As Larry comes to believe that everything he thought was valuable has eluded him, he learns that he may just discover his true purpose in life.
