An old writer and bohemian Marcel Marx is living a self-imposed exile life in the port city of Le Havre, working as a shoe shiner. Leaving behind his dreams of becoming a great writer, Marcel’s simple life, juggling between his job, his wife Arletty, and evenings spent at a bar, gets disrupted by an illegal immigrant from Africa who arrives in the city.
