In 1945, young Laure is left stranded when her Nazi parents are arrested by the Allies. She joins her four siblings on a journey to their grandmother’s house in Hamburg, 900 kilometers away. Amidst the chaos, deprivation, and suffering of the war’s end, Laure’s world is turned upside down when she meets a mysterious Jewish refugee named Thomas. To survive their dangerous journey, Laure must learn to trust someone she has been taught to hate.
