At first glance, Miller’s film may seem cliché. Starring Greta Gerwig and a group of intellectuals, academics, and hipsters from New York, the film explores their personal lives and relationships. While it may appear to be just another one of the many similar films we have seen in recent years, Miller’s film surprises with its interesting details. “Maggie’s Plan” has a subtle art direction and costume design that doesn’t shove the characters’ music or book preferences in the audience’s face. With successful performances from the cast, this American indie film stands out as a modest yet rich production.
