Manhattan 1979
Manhattan is like a love letter to New York from Allen, a lover of the city. Allen plays a comedy writer named Isaac, whose personal life is already complicated with his ex-wife, who is about to publish a book about their marriage and divorce. The film captures the insecurity of America in the late 70s, as city dwellers struggle with guilt and uncertainty despite having more wealth and freedom than before. This smart, balanced, yet melancholic black and white comedy has always remained popular among audiences.
