Mary Queen of Scots 2018
Mary Queen of Scots is a film that portrays the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Becoming Queen of France at the age of 16 and widowed at 18, Mary refuses to remarry and instead returns to Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. However, Scotland and England fall under the rule of Elizabeth I. Both young Queens view each other with a mix of fear and admiration, as rivals in power and love in a male-dominated world. Mary is determined to have a greater say in governance rather than being a puppet, challenging Elizabeth’s sovereignty and staking her claim to the English throne. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies create problems for both thrones, altering the course of history. Directed by Josie Rourke, this 2018 UK-US co-production has won 4 awards.
