George Washington McLintock (John Wayne) is the richest man in his region. He eagerly awaits the return of his daughter, who has been away at school for two years. Meanwhile, his estranged wife has also returned to town to take their daughter back. McLintock is a man respected by the entire town, providing a honest living for the local community in his own way. His stubborn wife, daughter, and the townspeople will do their best to keep him alive under the weight of the responsibilities placed upon him.
