Memory Box 2021
This powerful family drama, which made the shortlist for the main competition at the 2021 Berlinale, explores the impact of history on personal lives between Montreal and Beirut. The film’s two main characters are Maya and her teenage daughter Alex, who live in Montreal. One Christmas, a box filled with Maya’s diaries, cassette tapes, and photos from the 1980s in Beirut, which she entrusted to her friends, arrives at the mother and daughter’s home. While Maya refuses to delve into her past for Alex, the box is filled with clues to unravel the mysteries of her mother’s turbulent, emotional youth during the Lebanese Civil War.
