Carl Brashear, overcomes everything standing in the way of his dreams. The son of a Kentucky farmer, Carl leaves home in search of a better life. His father always told him “Never give up… be the best” and Carl takes those words to heart. After joining the Navy, Carl spends 2 years writing letters to get into a diving school. His training officer Billy Sunday, doesn’t want Carl or his relentless ambitions. Known as the Navy’s top commander, Sunday is notorious not only for his success in diving but also for causing trouble. Sunday, who seems to be a setback for Carl, wants him to give up. But Carl has other plans. His goal is clear and his determination is unwavering. No one can stop his dream of becoming a diver. Years after being injured, Carl unexpectedly reunites with Sunday. A sergeant who has never spoken out against the system, helps Carl overcome Navy bureaucracy, cope with losing a leg, and make history in the military. When Carl retires, he reaches the rank of Master Diver and Chief Diver, the highest ranks in the Navy. The film tells the true story of Carl Brashear, who made dangerous dives in the Navy in the 1950s and 60s.
