In 2015, the film “Mr. Holmes” was released, starring Ian McKellen in the role of Bay Holmes, who also played Gandalf in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”. Directed by Bill Condon and based on the novel by Mitch Cullin, the film follows the story of an elderly Sherlock Holmes who, in 1947, finds himself trying to solve a case that has remained unsolved for fifty years. Living in Sussex with his housekeeper and her son, Holmes struggles with his fading memory as he delves into the mystery involving a troubled wife and an angry husband. The film, set in England and the US, grossed $25 million in total.
