My Sister’s Keeper 2009
The lives of Sarah and Brian Fitzgerald, with their young sons and two-year-old daughter Kate, are forever changed when they discover that Kate has leukemia. The parents’ only hope is to have another child to save Kate’s life. For some, this type of genetic engineering raises ethical questions, but the Fitzgeralds, especially Sarah, have no choice but to do everything they can to keep Kate alive. And the one they need is Anna. The connection between Kate and Anna is stronger than most sisters: Kate, despite being older, relies on her sister – her life is actually dependent on Anna. The various medical procedures that the sisters have to endure in their youth are a normal part of a close-knit family’s life. Sarah, a loving wife and mother who gave up her legal career to care for her daughter, sometimes loses herself in the transformation into a determined nurse to save Kate. Brian, her strong, supportive husband, remains weak and passive due to his wife’s strength and determination. Almost forgotten, their only son Jesse becomes the center of attention when Anna, now 11 years old, says no. Wanting medical freedom, Anna hires a lawyer to open a case that could divide the family and leave Kate’s rapidly declining body in the hands of fate.
