Kathy (Carey Mulligan), Tommy (Andrew Garfield), and Ruth (Keira Knightley) spend their childhood in a peaceful and good English boarding school called Hailsham, where they also learn a dark and poignant secret about their future. As they leave their sheltered school behind and as time cruelly passes, they find themselves approaching a destructive fate that awaits them, while also having to confront deep feelings such as love, jealousy, and betrayal that separate them.
