In the 1990s, a mountain monastery in Maghreb where eight French monks peacefully coexist with Muslim villagers is thrown into chaos when foreign workers are killed by extremists, plunging their country into violence. Despite the looming danger, the monks are determined to stay no matter the cost. The military offers them protection, but they refuse. Eventually, the inevitable happens as militants raid the monastery. The monks refuse to give up, but differences arise among them: one is adamant about staying, while another wants to leave. A monumental masterpiece exploring faith and fanaticism.
