Out of Africa 1985
Danish Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) goes to Africa with her husband Bror Blixen (Klaus Maria Brandauer) to grow coffee. They settle on a farm and the year is 1913, with Africa largely being a colony of Europeans. Her husband’s neglect and infidelity push Karen into constant loneliness. During this time, she meets the adventurous hunter Denis Finch Hatton (Robert Redford) and falls in love with him. The film is based on the novel of the same name, first published in 1937 by Danish Baroness Karen von Blixen-Fineke (writing under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen). The book tells a love story set in British East Africa, against the backdrop of relationships between European settlers and native tribes from 1914-1931.
