Ben and his son, Junior, move from Cold River to Mortville. Junior, who was initially happy in their new home, starts causing trouble when his father begins looking for a new mother figure. Ben falls in love with the school nurse, Annie, but things take a turn for the worse when he discovers that Annie has a troubled daughter named Trixie, who sabotages her mother’s dating attempts just like Junior does. Meanwhile, Ben meets Lavender Dumort, the wealthiest woman in Mortville, who becomes obsessed with him and is determined to send Junior to a boarding school in Baghdad.
